UBS


The Union Bank of Switzerland is preparing a radical shift in staff training programmes from a product-based approach to a process based one. The processes are define in terms of the client needs. CBT units based on such processes are being developed and will be available on-line at all workstations. The aim is to introduce a completely decentralised training system into the everyday working context. When a problem arises, the employee can withdraw from the production process and check-out and improve his or her knowledge by way of a simulation of the relevant procedures. For those who require a more thorough training rather than on-the-spot help (such as newcomers or apprentices), special rooms are to be set aside for learning.

The system is designed to be self-sufficient and learners are expected to be able to learn on their own. However, it is planned to provide a hot-line to allow employees to directly ask the training staff questions. Although the training system includes testing mechanisms for concepts of a more theoretical nature, it is up to the person's boss to check that key notions have been satisfactorily grasped in practice.
