Nestlé invest considerable sums on in-house training. Building basic skills goes on at a local level the world over, more advanced skills and attitudes are dealt with at the International Training Centre near Vevey.

In terms of learning technologies, Nestlé are major clients for computer-based business simulation. One of the most recent being Nestlé Business Simulation, a multi-functional, adaptable role-playing exercise involving five imaginary companies in which levels of complexity can be adapted to the knowledge of users and the markets can be varied according to the type of product chosen.

Nestlé believes in using as far as possible its abundance of in-house knowledge, skills and experience. Much of the training carried out at the local as well as at the international level are conducted by Nestlé staff. Nestlé privileges direct contact of its managers at all levels with the participants. Nevertheless, because of an accelerated rate of growth in its size and geographical spread, the use of computer-based training has become more and more of a necessity for the transfer of specific knowledge and skills to specific segments of its employees world wide. Studies are currently being carried out to define and select best methodologies and tools to meet its needs.
