DIGITAL

Aware that the outcome of training depends very much on the context and is not guaranteed by the sole use of technology, Digital have developed what they call a training facility in which companies subscribe to a training programme including an assurance about outcomes for a flat quarterly fee. It is not so much the technology which is sold, but the outcomes which are guaranteed. Clients training needs are analysed, objectives set, solutions proposed and if one tool or method proves inappropriate others are used.

Digital have found that the use of ICT (Information and communication technologies in training can lead to considerable resistance especially in Latin countries where it is felt that the absence of direct contact and the use of technology is synonymous with cheapness and insufficiency. For this reason all training in Switzerland involves some form of direct human presence.

A five year PC Training Facility involving 140 employees began early 1995 in Gland with UICN (Union Internationale pour la Conservation de la Nature). The contract involves the training of PC users and aims to provide each participant with the necessary skills to use his or her PC in a competent and autonomous way. Training is modular, self-paced (just-in-time) and tailor-made for each individual. Should the requirements of an individual change during the period of the contract or should new software be introduced, the relevant on-going training is covered by the contract.
