DupliCode 

DupliCode is a joint venture project with a software company in Zürich on advanced techniques for the detection of similarities and duplication in source code.

Description:

The central benefit of the DupliCode prototype is that it becomes possible to identify identical or modified copies of source code in any kind of line-structured documents in a language independent fashion. Empirical studies have shown that the source code of large telecommunication software systems consists of up to 80% of duplications. These duplications are a maintenance nightmare.

DupliCode supports source code engineering:

• By making it trivial to check if a bug fix or an enhancement has to be applied to more than one location.
• By providing a list of candidates for generalization in object-oriented systems.
• By making it simple to find out if new duplicates are created without need.
• By making it possible to quickly determine an important measure for the maintainability of a large system.
