There is security problem here. The COFFEEBREAK serving MySQL server sits on a different machine than the WWW server. See the Deploying Java and JDBC article from DataDirect.

Possible solutions:

Install applet on local machine (sorry no details, have not tried)
Sign it (mhh don't know yet how to do this)
Use a multi-tier setup
