How many XP do I need to advance a level?

The following table shows when exactly you gain a level:

Note that it is almost impossible to gain levels above level 20 without
using some other method than just killing monsters. Here, you almost
certainly will have to eat wraiths, quaff potions of gain level, or
resort to other methods of gaining a level.
