Making a New Performance with Computer

Some students have difficulties in their gymnastic activities. In the classroom, the students used the VCR and the computer in order to analyze their techniques of jumping the vaulting box. They also modified the forms on the computer screen to make new performance, and did the actual trial later. First, they actually jumped the vaulting box, and each performance was taken by a video camera. Next, the teacher showed two different kinds of performance which were input from the video camera to the computer. The students discussed the differences. Then the students analyzed their own performance by comparing with other students' performance. They drew lines or some marks on their performance in order to improve their forms. Finally, they actually jumped the vaulting box, and evaluated their own performance and other students' performances. The students enjoyed this activity and acquired visual images for their performance. Therefore, they could improve their performance.

The students can have some images of jumping a vaulting box using the computer. They can compare their performance with that of other students' on the same computer screen. They can also draw lines and change some forms easily using the computer. They enjoy this activity and gain some images for their performance.

The teacher encourages the students to analyze their performance using the computer. Since the students can do this analysis spontaneously, the teacher needs to be a good guide during the activity.

Technique :

We used software called 'Z's STAFF PRO TOWNS" on the FM TOWNS computers. The user can input VCR information into the computer and can see it as continuous still pictures. The user can also draw lines and modify the pictures freely.

The students discussed their performance with their peers. They mde suggestions to each other in order to improve their performances.
