Résumé, summary

The students measured the change of the temperature of a frog and a hen using computers. They learned the body systems of different types of animals during the activity. First, the students researched the characteristics of different types of animals from some books. Then they learned how to measure two different types of animals' temperature using the thermosensor and the computer. The students measured the change of a frog's temperature using cold water and hot water. On the computer screen, the changes of the water temperature and frog's temperature appeared. Similarly, the students observed the changes of the hen's temperatures in a box with cold water and a box with hot water. The students understood that characteristics of 2 different animals. This activity helped the students to confirm their previous research findings.

Pédagogie, pedagogy :

The students measure the temperature changes of different animals such as a frog and a hen using the thermosensor and the computer. This activity helps the students to understand the temperature system of the poikilotherm visually. Therefore, they can think about the relationship between the animal's body structure and its living condition.

Apprentissage, learning :

The data of 2 different animals' temperature appeared on the computer screen immediately. This immediate visualisation helps the students to learn the temperature system of 2 different animals easily.

Enseignement, teaching :

The teacher encouraged the students to research characteristics of the different types of animals before this computer activity. This computer activity was performed to confirm some findings of their library research. The teacher made a simple manual for the students in order to help them to use the thermosensor and the computer.

Technique :

We used "N88 BASIC Sample Program" on PC type computers. We also used 2 thermosensors and a AD converter in order to measure the temperature of the animals and the environment at one time.

Société, society :

Culture :

Institution :

Five to six students made a group to do this activity. One computer was provided to each group . The teacher was readily available for the students' questions.

Logistique :

The students need to research characteristics of amphibians and birds before the computer activity.

Remarques, remarks :

The students can realize that the computer is one of the effective tools for their science activity. They can accurately measure some temperatures and can make graphs easily using the computer.
