Underpinning open and distance education - methodologies and infrastructure

Current changes in higher education in the developed world indicate a growing interest in distance learning methodologies and infrastructures, even in traditional campus based institutions. The emergence of the 'university without walls' is predicated on developments in telecommunications and networking. But technology without pedagogy is an empty shell and educators now face an imperative to explore and understand learning methodologies which are appropriate to distance education.
