Interview d'un étudiant qui utilise le MOO

Retour à l'index

Cet "interview" est un résumé d'une conversation que j'ai eue avec Mark directement sur MOO. Mark est un des wizards de Colledgetown

If I can I would ask you some questions

okay, that is fine...shoot

I need to study a MOO for Uni of Geneva and I think Colledgetown is very interesting

okay, what do you want to know about this place ?

Do you have some teachers connect with this MOO ?

yes, the one predominate one is Ken Schweller. He is the head-wiz.. it was his idea for this MOO. There is one from Canada as well, who is on the Council

How is it possible to communicate with Ken ?

it is possible but he is hard to find...his e-mail address is schweller@bvc.edu if you want to contact him that way

thanks, what is your interest here ?

I love to program, it is a fascination for me. Also, I know Ken pretty well, and I try to keep the place up and running for him...I'm the administrator of the machine that this MOO is on...

How did you create this MOO ?

we started with the server from Pavel and his Core database and went from there...Ken created the Forum and then built from there. We made a class out of it... A CS class made all the initial stuff for this MOO.

I have readen that all the students can build a house...

yes, for the most part. I don't think there is anyone here who can't build, except for guests.

so the MOO will become bigger ?

yes, the MOO is constantly expanding.

Do you know how many students are on this MOO ?

there approximately 290 players here, and I would say that about 75 % are students...if not more.

Can you explain me what was the purpose of Ken when he began to build this MOO ?

it is an educational MOO. It is hard to give an exact purpose...he ment it for collaborative minds to get together and help each other program, have conferences, and some other stuff.

do you think that it is a good way to teach something ?

I think it is an excellent way to teach structure for programming...also, it is quite possible to have conference on a MOO, where minds all over the world can come and be updated on specific technologies, and other stuff.

How can you learn programming?

well, you have people helping you learn to program if needed, and it is the basis for C programming.

Do you have, on the MOO, something like a traditional class ?

well, not yet, but I do see if happening in the future... we will have a programming class on here in January.

when did the MOO begin to work ?

I just read about this last night, but the date escape me... Here we are about a year old.

Is it possible to participate at the programming class ?

it is limited to BV students.

only to see how does it work...

if you want to watch Ken's learning to program tapes, that is entirely possible.

How can I do this ?

well, when you get a character, you create TV and watch the tapes.

Do you mind if I write some parts of this `interview on a page www ?

No not at all, as long as you don't incriminate me :)

Thank you very much, bye

bye, see you soon.
