11-7 Chambre de dialogue

Psychology laboratory (#108):

----

This is a dialog room. It is meant for group discussions on a particular topic or meetings, where some participants might want to leave briefly and reenter. This room provides two main features: (1) utterance numbering, so particular contributions can be referred to easily (2) local context storing so that you can review the last few utterances. There is also a new communication verb "!" which can be used to reply to previous utterance numbers, as in the following example:

David types this:

"This is a very important dialogue.

Others in the room see this:

u1: David says, "This is a very important dialogue."

Kaspar types this

!1 No it isn't!

Others see this:

u2: Kaspar replies to u1 with: "No it isn't!"

Also, you can type "review" to see the last N utterances in the room (where N is the value of the property here.length).

Other useful verbs are:

begin_dialog -- starts the utterance numbering at 0, clears out the store of previous utterances and begins recording utterance number

stop_dialog -- stops the numbering and recording of utterances

continue_dialog -- starts recording again at the point the dialog was stopped.

clear_dialog -- erases the store of previous utterances.

There is also a mode which saves the whole dialog - not just the last few utterances. To enable this mode, start or continue the dialog as above, using the word "save" in the command line. The whole dialogue can be reviewed by typing "review all". The following verbs are also useful for stopping and erasing the dialog. Please use them to avoid wasting memory!

dont_save -- stops recording the whole dialog.

clear_all -- erases the dialog recording.

There is also an option to record all events (e.g., emotes, directed speech, enterances, etc.) in the room (not just utterances from say and reply). To invoke this mode, simply use the direct object "all" on the begin_dialog or continue_dialog verbs. In this mode, for events which a player sees differently from the rest of the room, the event number will be displayed right above or below the description of the event.

Future advances will include hooks for analysis of the dialogue topic threads.
