5.5 A FAVOURABLE CORPORATE CULTURE

A number of those questioned for this report insisted on the necessity to make learning a major objective in corporate culture. Such a corporate engagement is an essential condition for wide-spread up-take of life-long learning. It is possible, however, that the implications of such an orientation and the changes in structure that it necessitates are the source of considerable resistance that make becoming a "learning company" difficult to achieve. The same is no doubt true of attempts to shift the initiative for learning to the individual (cf. 5.6).
