The FernUniversitaet (FeU) started in winter 1975/76 with 1.300 students.
Today, FeU offers distance learning at university level
in a variety of subjects - for 56.000 students and
supported by the Web.

The FeU runs quite a few study centers:
The FeU web site provides informations and contacts.
The address http://www.stud.fernuni-hagen.de/ links to the pages set up by the students.

| What: Instructional material |
|
The contents are distributed by study letters - twice a month:
Many of the contents are presented by software products
on floppy disks and CD-ROMs.
|
| How: Instructional setup |
|
The students follow the courses by learning the content of the study letters.
They get help and guidance in the study center in their region.
For testing they have to show up in the study centers
and pass the same exams like in traditional universities.

| Communication and interaction |
|
A considerable staff of the FeU ensures successful interaction::
- about 80 professors - about 400 scientific collaborators - about 700 administration collaborators

| Comment and personal rating |
|
The FeU is a big enterprise.
And I have the impression that it is very well managed.
The website is handy organized and full of informations - not only for FeU students.
