The Creativity and Learning with New Technologies is a one day exhibition which provides the opportunity for students to demonstrate how they use modern technologies in their studies and for their personal creativity. It is an outstanding opportunity for the work of students to be appreciated by a wider audience and for students and teachers to learn about new technologies from the students exhibition.

The Creativity and Learning with New Technologies exhibition was an outgrowth of the following developments:
1. Each year the students at the Vienna International School visit the IFABO which is a huge annual commercial computer exhibition. In recent years it has become apparent that the students enjoy the exhibition, but feel that the quality of the commercial programs were far beyond what they were capable of personally achieving.
2. In every subject area of the curriculum, there is an increased used of more advanced computer technologies and little opportunity to share expertise between students and staff.
3. An increasing number of students are using technologies creatively for their studies and own personal enjoyment. However, there are very few opportunities for a student to receive recognition for these efforts beyond family and a few close friends.
Consequently, the teachers of information technology, music, art, drama, food technology, creative textiles, and craft design technology encourage and support the students in organizing an one day mini-version of the major commercial exhibition.
Apprentissage, learning :
The possibility of participating in this one day exhibition is highly motivating for students. The students are encouraged to work in teams on projects or set up an individual exhibition. Not only do the students devote a significant effort in their displays, but also in sharing their expertise with other students and teachers on the exhibition day.
The exhibition is one of the most popular events each year for the both the student exhibitors and the students, teachers, and parents. One of the greatest shocks to most teachers and parents is the level of sophistication in technical expertise and creativity which exists amongst the students. Today¹s students use the same tools as the professionals. This year¹s computer displays were dominated by multimedia, animations, graphics, desktop publishing, and programming. Some years sound and music composition plays a more dominate role.
In contrast to the commercial computer exhibition which is held in Vienna, the students who visit the exhibition in the school have a sense that all of the projects are more approachable because they were created by students who they know. There is also the sense that they will be able to achieve similar success. Many of the students get their first introduction to new software applications and how to use them from the students exhibiting.
Enseignement, teaching :
The exhibition provides the opportunity to incorporate a ³real² project into the students learning. In the past, the exhibition plan, exhibition logo, exhibition program, exhibitor name tags, and overall exhibition management has been organized by the students. Desktop publishing classes have produced publicity materials for the event.
Technique :
On the day preceding the event, tables and electrical outlets are placed in the appropriate locations for the exhibition. A card is taped on each table containing the name of the student(s) exhibiting in that location.
On the day of the exhibition, the students begin to set up their display from 8:00 to 9:00. Each student exhibitor receives an official name tag, and an official display sign over their exhibit with their name and the title of their display. Some of the students and their parents transport hardware from home. Other equipment and hardware is supplied from school resources. The students participating in the exhibit are released from their normal classes for the entire day.
The exhibition is schedules from 9:00-4:30. Snacks and a light lunch are provided for the student exhibitors because most of the students wish to remain by their exhibit. At 4:30 the students assist with returning all of the technologies to the various school departments and assist their parents in getting all of their personal hardware back home.
Société, society :
There is a tremendous exchange of ideas and creativity amongst the students. The students and teachers from several local Austrian and international schools are invited to visit the exhibition. Local computer company representative are also invited. This is an excellent opportunity for both the teachers and students to discuss the differences and similarities between the various educational systems. Furthermore, it provides a real audience for the students creativity than just their family and a few personal friends.
Culture :
The students from the Vienna International School come from over 80 different countries. In such an exhibition, there is culturally rich display combining the cultural heritages of the students with the various integrated arts and technologies.
Logistic and institutional aspects (management):
As the exhibition has expanded each year, the only challenge has been the increased requirement for electricity and electrical outlets both of which have been overcome.

There needs to be a great deal of planning and cooperation between the staff and the students. The students must have a clear idea of what type of exhibitions are expected and what the guidelines have been set for the exhibit. For example, in the computer exhibition, no commercial games are allowed, only student produced projects.
Remarques, remarks :
This exhibition is quite easy to organize, but demands a significant amount of energy on the part of the staff on the day of the exhibition. It is important that all of the students have had the opportunity to show their projects to as many students, teachers and parents as possible. The students are encouraged by the appreciation of the observers and motivated to develop even more sophisticated projects the next year. It is always encouraging to hear the students refer to ³what they want to do for next year².
