Résumé, summary

The simulation software is very effective for the students to design a living room. First, the teacher showed a bad designed living room and did encouraged the students to think what was wrong. Then the students research on the family structure, purposes of the room, and characteristics of the family's way of life. The students drew furniture and made a living room plan using the computer. They colored the objects and completed the plan. They also drew a 3-D picture. Finally, they made presentations of their designs and discussed them in the classroom. The students enjoyed the activity and discovered the convenience of the computer as a possible designing tool.

This simulation software is very effective for the students to design a living room. Since they can input their images into the computer, they are able to understand ideal positions of furniture and appropriate colors for the living room.

The students can design an actual living room on the computer screen. Since they can create many types of design and edit their products easily, they are able to express their ideas freely.

The teacher showed the students a picture of very crowded living room using the computer. Then she encouraged the students to think about what was a good living room. She also encouraged them to discuss with their peers.

Technique :

We used FS-500 (MSX) computers and the software used for the interior designs. The students drew pictures easily using the mouse.

The students made presentations of their products and discussed them.

We needed to reserve the computer lab for this activity. The teacher was readily available for the students' questions.
